CHARACTERISTICS OF THE RENAISSANCE
Deliberate reunion of the man with the classic antiquity.
The writers and the artists they rejected the medieval tradition and they
prefer taking like shape the ideas and the works of the classic period of
Greece (centuries V the II nd B.C.) and Rome (that gathers the Greek inheritance).
There returned to be imposed the logical arrangement, the canon of the Greek
art, the culture of the Latin and of the Greek, etc.
The scorn for the medieval forms. In the Renaissance one
gave to the medieval art the name of "Gothic" because in that time
they were considering it to be own of the Goths or barbarians.
Consideration of the man as center of the reflection and of
the worries (humanism), unlike the Middle Ages, which took God as an axis of
any intellectual activity (teocentrismo). The man of the Renaissance called yes
the same humanist himself, and he was thinking that the art, the literature and
the music had to reflect also his problems, feelings and aspirations, leaving
the exclusively religious topic.
Optimistic vision of the man and of the nature. The recovery
of the platonic philosophy brought as consequence the search of the harmony and
of the proportion. The worry for the man took a humanized art as an effect.
